How to quickly break in wedding shoes?
Check out our 6 tips.
There’s nothing worse during a celebration than uncomfortable shoes. Every woman has experienced such a nightmare and wished they could quickly change their shoes. Don’t let the joy of your wedding day or any other special occasion be ruined by pain and blisters. Uncomfortable shoes can ruin even the best event. How to avoid this? Here’s how!
Here are some tips to help you quickly break in your new wedding shoes.
1. Wear the shoes for increasingly longer periods.
It’s best to break in your shoes at home. This way, they won’t get damaged, and you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful and comfortable shoes on your wedding day.
When breaking in wedding shoes, patience is key. Think of it like training for a marathon. Start with short sessions and gradually work your way up to the full distance. Your “full distance” is the amount of time you’ll be wearing the shoes on your wedding day.
Start by wearing the shoes for an hour, while doing light housework.
Once the shoes are comfortable after an hour of wear, start wearing them until your feet begin to hurt.
Gradually extend the time until you can wear the shoes for several hours.
Remember that natural leather stretches with the warmth of your feet.
2. If, despite breaking them in, the shoe still feels tight, put on thin socks.
How to break in wedding shoes? Put on a pair of thin socks and slip your feet into the shoes, then walk around in them for a few minutes. The warmth of your feet will warm up the shoes, and the extra padding from the socks will gently stretch them.
Be careful – never use thick socks. There’s a risk that the wedding shoe will stretch too much, making it too loose.
3. Heat the shoes with a hairdryer.
Another way to quickly break in wedding shoes is to put on a pair of thin socks, slip your feet into the shoes, and then heat them with a hairdryer in tight spots, such as the toes or heels. Don’t take off the shoes until they cool down. Then, remove the socks, and you’re all set!
With this method, however, we recommend being careful not to overstretch the shoe.
4. Get professional help.
If you don’t have time to break in your wedding shoes, take them to a shoemaker to have them stretched by machine. The shoemaker will spray the shoe with a stretching solution and then stretch it using a machine.
5. Choose your heel height wisely.
If you don’t usually wear high heels, you need to consider that your feet will need more time to get accustomed to such shoes. In that case, you should practice walking in other high heels around the house, to work, or while shopping, so your body gets used to a different weight distribution.
If you want to provide your feet with more comfort, choose wedding shoes with a lower heel of 8 cm or 5.5 cm. Also consider swapping wedding stilettos for a block heel, which is significantly more stable.
6. Get gel insoles.
You’ll find various gel insoles on the market, such as silicone, latex, or thermoplastic rubber. They come in different designs and are often not full insoles, but are placed, for example, in the front or back part of the shoe. Which insoles should you choose?
- If your heel slips, add heel grips inside the shoe.
- For more forefoot comfort, buy cushioned toe pads.
- Use bunion pads or small gel inserts to alleviate rubbing in specific areas.
The most important thing is to be fully aware of which shoes you should choose. You know your body best and understand what works for you. When choosing wedding shoes, opt for natural materials so your skin can breathe freely.
Never save completely new shoes for an event. Even the most comfortable wedding shoes need time to “get acquainted” with your feet. Plan to break in your wedding shoes in advance.
